Aadhaar Card Mandatory to Get Death Certificate

Aadhaar will be mandatory to be produced if you want to get death certificate from 1 October, the Home Ministry said 12 digit Aadhaar Number would have to be produced to establish the identity of the dead person. This new rule will come into function across the country except Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya.

The applicant Aadhaar Number will also be required as well as of the dead person's spouse and parents Aadhar. Applicant who are unable to furnish  Aadhaar Number or Enrolment Number of the dead person will have to provide certificate saying  deceased person does not possess Aadhaar number to the best of his/her knowledge."

Usage of Aadhaar in issuing death certificate will ensure accuracy of details provided by acquaintances/ relatives or dependents of those who have expired. Any false declaration provided by applicant relating to Aadhaar would be treat as an offense. This will also prevent identity fraud, as well as it will help in storing the identity of expired person. Only one document that is Aadhaar is enough to get issued with death certificate of the dead person, there will be no need to show multiple document.
