PAN could go invalid if not linked with Aadhaar Number

Currently PAN Card is mandatory for all taxpayers to file income tax return but other people like students, or people outside tax bracket still uses this PAN Card as proof of identity document.

As of now 98% of Indian Adult Population holds Aadhaar Card and the time-frame till 31st December is more than enough to link PAN Card with Aadhaar.

About 1.08 billion Indian population has unique identification number which aims to eliminate the distribution of government entitlements and benefits. In past few years Aadhaar has been linked to a spreading list of subsidies and schemes, such as the mid-day meal.

By keeping all things in mind Lok Sabha passed a controversial bill that made Aadhaar mandatory for filing income tax returns or applying for a PAN card. According to the minor changes in the finance bill taxpayer will be unable to file income tax returns from July if they fail to link the Aadhaar Number or show proof of having applying for one.
